Limerick team makes sodium-ion battery carbon nanofibers from pulp-and-paper waste using water

University of Limerick researchers made carbon nanofibers for sodium-ion batteries from lignosulfonate, a pulp-and-paper waste, in a water-based process. The team says the process also does without the synthetic binders and additives common in battery manufacturing.

Heatwave demand pulls Unigrid's sodium-ion home batteries into Europe at a premium to lithium

Unigrid says it has shipped 100 sodium-ion home batteries and will reach 1,000 by year end, each priced at roughly $100 per kWh against lithium LFP's $81. Its European buyers are paying extra today for a cost advantage that has not arrived; some companies told the BBC sodium-ion might fall as low as $30 per kWh.

SwRI's new index scores whether a sodium cell can do an 18650's job

Southwest Research Institute has built an index that measures whether two cell chemistries can run the same duty cycle. Its first test set sodium-ion cells against the 18650 lithium-ion format used in laptops and power tools.

HiTHIUM designs its 785Ah sodium cell to run on the lithium lines it already has

HiTHIUM's new 4MWh sodium-ion system promises 20,000 cycles and a 30-year design life, with first deliveries in 2027. Those two numbers only expire on the same day if the cell runs 1.83 cycles daily.

Kiwoom and NH set POSCO Future M targets 61% apart on the same LFP conversion

Both brokerages raised their price targets on the same fourth-quarter start-up of LFP lines replacing high-nickel capacity, though NH kept a hold rating with the stock at 162 times projected 2028 earnings.

KAIST traced battery ion highways back to bumps on the sample surface

Electrochemical strain microscopy can read probe contact as ion movement, so a KAIST team etched trenches into ion-blocking silicon to prove it. Their fix is an argon-beam polishing step, not a new microscope.

Iron ions carry a sodium-ion pouch cell to 206 Wh/kg across a 100-cycle test

Nanjing University's cathode still holds 87.8 percent of its capacity after those 100 cycles, which is a genuine cell-level result and a very short record, and the report attaches no cost figure to the cheap-sodium case.
