EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen said on October 9 that the AI Act, as it stands, equips Brussels to contain rogue AI agents. Firms deploying agents in Europe should plan for stricter use of the existing rulebook while its heaviest obligations stay deferred.

buildOne report1 publisher In a 21-provider census, only DeepSeek and Mistral publish training-data summaries in the EU's template
DeepSeek and Mistral are the only 2 of 21 large AI providers publishing a training-data summary in the EU AI Act's template, a dev.to census found. Most of the rest describe training data inside model cards, so buyers on EU contracts have to check the template's fields by hand.

Ireland's DPC takes a median 6.2 years to decide a cross-border GDPR case, a LessWrong analysis finds. The AI Act gives the Commission five years from a violation to fine, and it requires the same investigation and response steps that take up most of the Irish cases.

The European AI Office starts enforcing on 2 August 2026, and every Article 99 tier is written as the higher of a fixed sum or a share of global turnover. The crossover point decides which number a company is actually exposed to.

ENISA waited five months for Mythos 5 and one week for GPT-6 Astra
The European Commission says its cybersecurity agency now holds both frontier models, but it will not say whether Article 55 or a letter from 30 MEPs pried Mythos 5 loose, and nobody has named the build ENISA is testing.

Henna Virkkunen told Axios that America gets its AI guardrails through courts and state law rather than statute, which means a team waiting for federal clarity is really waiting for a settlement that arrives as a product spec.

From 2 August the office can demand documents, run evaluations and push models out of a 450-million-person market. What it cannot yet do is measure frontier models without their makers' help.
