Adobe puts more than 70 creative tools behind Slackbot on Slack's two top tiers
The Adobe for Slack MCP app lets Slackbot read a channel and then call Photoshop or Firefly. That makes the rollout a Slack contract question before it is ever an Adobe licensing question, and it lets people start with no Adobe account at all.
The Product Desk

What happened
- Adobe launched the Adobe for Slack MCP app with more than 70 pro-grade tools drawn from Firefly, Express, Photoshop, Premiere, Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Stock and Lightroom.
- Slackbot handles the calls, pulling context from messages, files, channels and Canvases before picking the Adobe tool that matches what someone typed into the conversation.
- The app is live globally on desktop, web and mobile from launch day, but only for customers on the Slack Business+ and Enterprise+ plans.
- Anyone in those workspaces can start without an Adobe account, and signing in adds generative AI features, Creative Cloud files and continuity between sessions.
- Adobe already runs comparable integrations inside ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot, and says a Gemini version is coming soon.
Why it matters
- Who has to decide decision The gate is Slack's price list rather than Adobe's, so a team on a cheaper Slack plan cannot buy its way in with creative seats; the upgrade case has to be made by whoever owns the Slack contract.
- Who's exposed exposure Assets can now be produced in a shared channel by people holding no Adobe seat, which puts provenance and versioning outside the identity system a brand or legal team knows how to audit.
- What it sets up precedent One MCP server answering four chat clients makes shipping an MCP surface the cheap default for enterprise vendors, and turns bespoke per-client integration work into something a product team has to justify.
- What doesn't add up contradiction Adobe's own user research points at batch resizing while its launch examples showcase brief-to-video, so the demo that wins budget approval is unlikely to be the workload that decides renewal.

Somebody in the campaign channel is asked to resize six approved hero images for three placements before end of day. That chore is what Adobe's own research keeps surfacing. Deepti Pradeep, the company's senior director for agentic AI, told TechCrunch that people using Adobe tools inside other apps reach for repeatable work such as batch-editing images and resizing creatives without leaving the app [11], and that focus groups described the value as "saving time, getting to the outcome they want faster without having to micromanage every step" [12]. The launch material aims higher, with a Slackbot that reads a project brief out of a channel and returns a PDF, an image or a video [8]. Both can be true at once, though it is the batch work, not the brief-to-video demo, that is more likely to keep the app installed by month three.
The tool count reads better as a spec than as a boast. More than 70 tools cover nine named applications [1], which works out at fewer than eight per app (70 divided by 9 is about 7.8) [15]. In practice, that means roughly eight verbs per app rather than a full Photoshop session in a chat window, and the published examples name most of them: removing backgrounds and distractions, adjusting lighting and tone, cropping, and producing variations [10], plus asset search across Creative Cloud by subject, style or mood [9].
The plan gate and the no-account path interact in a way the announcement leaves open. Neither writeup says where a file created inside a channel ends up, or whether output from a person who never signed in gets the same brand review as work leaving Illustrator [17]. That is the question the person who rolls this out will be asked on Friday, and neither source addresses it.
Adobe is not alone in treating the chat box as a distribution channel. Canva and Figma are exposing capabilities in ChatGPT and Claude, while Anthropic is building tighter Slack integrations on the argument that team context is captured in those conversations [13]. TechCrunch reports Adobe's own ChatGPT integration arrived only last month [7]. Pradeep's differentiator is breadth, that Adobe carries both creative and productivity tools across modalities [14]. For a buyer, that matters less than the structural point: as more chat clients plug into the same server, the client list starts to look like a footnote next to the server itself, which is where the real product now sits.
The work that benefits splits along two axes, and it is worth sorting your own tasks against them before enabling anything. First, whether the task follows a fixed recipe or needs judgement on a canvas. Second, whether the output leaves the building. Recipe work that stays internal, such as comps, deck visuals and resizes of already-approved art, is what a chat surface is genuinely good at. Judgement work, and anything a client or a regulator sees, still wants the app, a named owner and a file path. The metric worth logging in the first month is the share of chat-initiated assets that shipped without a rework pass, not simply a count of how many Slackbot calls fired, and whether the same people are still calling the tools in week four.
What to watch
- Whether the promised Gemini integration ships, taking Adobe's MCP server to five chat clients on one build.
- Any admin control from Adobe or Slack over unauthenticated tool use, or a stated storage path for chat-generated assets.
- Whether Canva or Figma follows Adobe into Slackbot rather than stopping at ChatGPT and Claude.

The integration works through Slackbot, Slack's built-in AI assistant, which can pull context from messages, files, channels and Canvases before calling the appropriate Adobe tool.

Adobe for Slack is available globally to Slack Business+ and Enterprise+ customers across desktop, web and mobile starting today.

TechCrunch reported that Adobe introduced a similar integration for ChatGPT last month.

Adobe's examples include asking Slackbot to summarize a project brief and turn the information into a PDF, image or video, resizing approved campaign creative for different social platforms, transforming spreadsheet data into a shareable visual, and refining batches of photos.
- [9]
The app can search Creative Cloud assets by subject, style or mood and bring the results into a Slack workflow for further editing.

Adobe says users can remove backgrounds and distractions, adjust lighting and tone, crop images and produce multiple variations from within Slack.

Deepti Pradeep, Senior Director for Agentic AI at Adobe, told TechCrunch that people are using Adobe's tools in other apps for repeatable workflows such as batch-editing images or resizing creatives without leaving the app.
- [12]
Pradeep said focus group participants described the value as "saving time, getting to the outcome they want faster without having to micromanage every step, being able to access Adobe wherever they're already working", which pushed Adobe to think less about individual edits and more about the larger outcome.
- [13]
Other creative tools including Canva and Figma are making their capabilities available in chatbots such as ChatGPT and Claude, while companies like Anthropic are releasing tighter Slack integrations because team context is often captured in those conversations.
- [14]
Pradeep said consumers having choices between tools is good, but that Adobe has the advantage of providing both creative and productivity tools across different modalities.
- [15]
More than 70 tools spread across the nine named Adobe applications averages fewer than eight tools per application, about 7.8.
- [16]
With Slackbot added, Adobe's tools now reach four live chat clients (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Slackbot), and five once the promised Gemini integration ships.
- [17]
Neither the 9to5Mac writeup nor the TechCrunch report states where files created through Slackbot are stored, or whether output produced by a user who has not signed in to an Adobe account is subject to any review.
