Lenovo's leaked Googlebook 15 doubles the memory floor Chromebook Plus set
MacObserver's spec sheet for the Lenovo Googlebook 15 lists 16GB or 32GB of RAM behind a 2880x1800 OLED panel. It came without a price, and the Lenovo machines Gizmodo and 9to5Google compare it to start above $1,500.

What happened
- MacObserver's leaked spec sheet for the Lenovo Googlebook 15 lists an Intel Core Ultra 5 325, 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5x, 256GB or 512GB of storage and a 15.3-inch 2880 x 1800 120Hz OLED touchscreen.
- Google's Chromebook Plus program set the floor a partner had to meet to unlock its AI features at 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and an Intel Core or AMD Ryzen 700 series processor.
- No price came with the leak, and 9to5Google said the closest machine it could find, Lenovo's ThinkPad X9 15 Aura Edition, currently sells for just over $1,500.
- Google's Googlebook launch remains scheduled for later this year, and ChromeUnboxed reported in August that a September 15 media event will preview the first wave of machines.
Why it matters
- What it costs cost A buyer whose per-seat budget was set by the Chromebook Plus minimums is now being asked to fund 16GB of LPDDR5x, at a moment Gizmodo describes as RAM prices pushing shoppers toward cheaper machines. There is no launch price to size the increase.
- What it limits constraint With Google yet to say how the operating system handles Android apps natively on a large display, an IT team cannot pilot the software case before it has to commit to the hardware.
- Who's exposed exposure Any fleet planning to lean on "Google facial authentication" as a login factor is committing to something 9to5Google says may be a software implementation like Pixel's.
- What doesn't add up contradiction The two Lenovo machines the reports reach for as analogues sit roughly $200 apart, so where you land on price depends on which reviewer's comparison you accept.

The buyer to keep in mind is the one who orders machines sixty at a time, hands them out without imaging them, and swaps the ones that come back with cracked lids. For that person, the memory is the number to check in MacObserver's sheet [1].
16GB against the 8GB Chromebook Plus floor is a doubling, 256GB against 128GB is another, and the 32GB option is four times the memory a partner used to have to ship [10]. Gizmodo says RAM prices are pushing more buyers toward cheaper MacBook Neo-level laptops [22]. 9to5Google wrote that "this thing is not going to be cheap by any means" [6].
Both price anchors in circulation are reviewers' comparisons. Gizmodo's comparison is Lenovo's ThinkPad T16 Gen 5, same chip and the same kind of screen at 16 inches, at more than $1,700 [7], roughly $200 above the ThinkPad 9to5Google picked [15]. Google's own statement covers the launch wave: it said that wave of Googlebooks would have a premium focus [11].
For when review units arrive, the sheet lists a 70Wh battery rated at up to 11 hours [14], which works out to about 6.4 watts of average draw [18], against a 15.3-inch OLED that Engadget says peaks at 500 nits and runs at 120Hz [4]. The port list is two USB-C/Thunderbolt 4, one USB-A, HDMI 2.0 and an audio jack [16], so docks and meeting-room displays get checked against 2.0.
The biometrics need a closer read than a spec bullet allows. The sheet names a fingerprint sensor and "Google facial authentication" [8]. According to 9to5Google, the report stops there, and it is unclear whether the alleged hardware enhancements are in place or whether this is a software implementation similar to the one on Pixel phones [19]. Those are different purchases when a security review asks which one you bought.
The decision turns on what a Googlebook replaces on your desks. If it replaces a Chromebook, the leaked configuration raises the per-seat number, and what comes back is Gemini work Google has not yet put in operating terms. Gizmodo notes Google has yet to describe how the operating system will handle Android apps natively on a larger display [9]. If it replaces a Windows laptop, the comparison is Lenovo's own IdeaPad Vibe line, which Gizmodo expects to cost far less and to run the PC software already installed [21].
What to watch
- Whether Lenovo prices the Googlebook 15 above or below the $1,500 mark at launch.
- Whether "Google facial authentication" ships as the hardware-based Project Toscana that 9to5Google compares to Face ID for speed, or as software.
- Whether the tablet with a detachable trackpad and keyboard that Lenovo is also building for Google lands cheaper than the 15.
