Deno desktop's default backend draws your UI with whatever engine the host already ships

Deno 2.9, released June 25, 2026, added an experimental deno desktop command that compiles a web app into a single binary. The default backend bundles no browser engine, so rendering follows WebView2 or WebKit. Bundling Chromium is a flag away, at tens of megabytes.

Cloudflare takes in the Deno team behind celld, the open-source implementation of Workers and Durable Objects

Deno's entire team is joining Cloudflare and taking celld, its open-source implementation of Workers and Durable Objects, along with it. For teams on Workers, the code they would use to leave now comes from the company they would be leaving.

Deno's move to Cloudflare sets an April 2027 shutdown for Deno Deploy

Deno Deploy shuts down around April 2027 under Ryan Dahl's plan to move the whole Deno team to Cloudflare, a dev.to migration guide reports. Hosted apps must move by then; teams self-hosting Deno get a longer deadline set by the end of security releases.

Node marks type stripping Stable for TypeScript written in erasable syntax

Node.js marks type stripping Stable in versions 25.2 and 24.12, letting node script.ts run TypeScript without ts-node, tsx or a build step. Node only deletes types, so the switch holds for code that stays inside TypeScript's erasable subset.

Node.js drops to one major release a year to cut the branches its maintainers patch

Node.js will ship one major release a year from this October, dropping the odd-numbered line that few teams ran in production. LTS-only shops mostly see renumbering, and the cost lands on teams that took new APIs from the odd Current line.

tinyjs trades Electron's bundled Chromium for a 5.6 MB JavaScript runtime

The project's own download page lists its example music player at 7.4 MB against Electron's 150 MB floor, with native Node addons and identical cross-platform rendering among the costs of getting there.

Bun's million-line Rust port ran $165,000 through Anthropic's API meter

Of the ten code migrations Anthropic says finished in a month, only one carries a dollar figure: 5.9 billion input tokens and 690 million output tokens, a million lines of Rust, about 16.5 cents a line.

Bun's 535,496-line Zig codebase was rewritten in Rust and validated against TypeScript tests

Jarred Sumner's four-month rewrite checked transpiled Rust against a TypeScript suite that does not depend on the implementation language, and reaching a fully passing run cost about $165,000 in tokens.

AI agents ported Bun's 535,496 lines of Zig to Rust, validated by a language-independent test suite

Bun's port from Zig to Rust landed in four months because its test suite was written in TypeScript, independent of the language underneath, and because separate agents wrote the code and reviewed it.

Writing P1M instead of P30D switches off Deno's dependency-age filter

Deno 2.6 added --min-dep-age to keep freshly published npm versions out of installs. Testing on 2.9.6 found that any duration carrying a month or year component drops the check entirely, with exit code 0 and an empty stderr.

Node 24.21.0 swaps the bundled root certificates for NSS 3.126

The LTS patch also carries OpenSSL 3.5.8, six semver-minor additions including a faster net.BlockList, and three FIPS entries filed under one pull request, so the regression run costs more than a version bump usually does.

Tauri trades Electron's 150 MB floor for a Node sidecar you have to supervise

Size was the only reason to pick Tauri over Electron for this app, and the discount is real. What you take on in exchange is a second process whose lifetime and paths you now manage from Rust.
