Anthropic's advisor plugin ships with nine wealthtech incumbents supplying the data behind it

Anthropic's Claude for Financial Advisors went live with nine wealthtech partners feeding data into it, among them Charles Schwab and BlackRock. Each is now supplying a workflow surface Anthropic controls.

What happened

  • Anthropic's Claude for Financial Advisors is available now, installed from the plugin browser in Cowork by firms that already hold an Enterprise licence, with guided setup to connect their tools.
  • The bundled plugin works with BlackRock, Charles Schwab, Addepar, Envestnet, iCapital, Orion, Wealthbox, Wealth.com and Zocks, and the advisor picks which of them to connect during setup.
  • The new advisor connectors sit alongside connectors Claude already had, including Microsoft 365, Salesforce, DocuSign, Box, FactSet, S&P Global and Morningstar.
  • Claude prepares briefs, summaries and draft analyses for review, and stages administrative actions such as CRM updates and draft client communications for the advisor to approve.
  • A compliance skill screens client-facing language against the SEC Marketing Rule and runs a self-guided workflow that helps a firm document its use of AI under SEC rules.

Why it matters

  • What it limits constraint Investment recommendations, client communications and compliance determinations still need human approval. The hours the plugin can take out of a practice are prep and drafting hours, not the reviewing that carries the liability.
  • Who has to decide decision The recordkeeping audit logs sit in the Enterprise tier, so a registered investment adviser has to buy that tier. The adoption decision runs through whoever owns compliance as much as whoever owns technology.
  • Who's exposed exposure Nine firms that sell software and custody to advisors are now feeding a screen Anthropic controls. Their own upsell surface now sits an install away, behind Anthropic's plugin browser.
  • What it costs cost Anthropic has not published a price for the plugin or the licence it requires. A firm's cost of adoption is whatever it negotiates, and a small practice has no published figure to compare against its existing wealthtech spend.

A sixth of a typical advisory practice's time goes to client meetings, according to the Kitces research Anthropic cites. That leaves five hours of prep, planning and documentation behind every hour spent with a household. Anthropic's argument is reallocation. Time saved on prep and paperwork, it says, can go to a current client or to a new household the practice does not yet have capacity to serve. It cites EBRI's 2026 Retirement Confidence Survey, in which more than four in 10 American workers said they do not know who to go to for good financial or retirement planning advice. Saved hours only turn into revenue if they fill, and Anthropic names what should fill them: tax, estate, insurance and retirement planning work the practice is not selling today.

The nine platforms in the bundle are ones the advisory firm already pays for, and the skills route back into those systems instead of standing in for them. One of the nine is building its own front end anyway. BlackRock is launching a plugin for Advisor Center, joining plugins already shipped by S&P Global and LSEG. "By making our institutional-quality portfolio analytics more accessible, we are helping more advisors leverage our portfolio intelligence so they can spend more time focused on client relationships," said Jaime Maguera, BlackRock's Head of US Wealth and Retirement Businesses. Jon Beatty, head of Schwab Advisor Services, said the future of advisor technology will be defined by how well firms can connect trusted data, powerful intelligence and everyday workflows, according to Crowdfund Insider.

Firms that request a new licence before the end of September 2026 receive a one-time usage credit. Crowdfund Insider dated the launch to September 2026, so the credit window closes in the same month the product shipped. The blog post does not include a price. Firms can take the skills as published from Anthropic's repository or rewrite them to their own service model and house style. A wealthtech vendor cannot match that with a feature.

Two readings fit what has been published. In the first, the plugin becomes where an advisor starts the morning, and the platforms behind it become data suppliers whose own screens get opened less often. In the second, the skills push work straight back into those platforms, and the partners collect usage they did not have to sell. Anthropic released no adoption or usage figures. In my view the first is the likelier outcome, because the advisor reads and edits where the drafts are staged, and the drafts are staged in Claude. The evidence that would settle it is whether BlackRock, S&P Global and LSEG keep investing in their own plugins or quietly let them go.

What to watch

  • Whether Anthropic publishes seat pricing or installed-firm counts for the advisor plugin. Either would make the cost per saved hour testable.
  • Whether any custodian or CRM in the launch group limits what its connector exposes to Claude once query volume grows.
  • Whether SEC examiners test the AI-policy documentation the compliance skill produces in an actual RIA examination.
