Gamdom's hot-wallet loss figure sits up to $1.2 million below an on-chain investigator's count

Gamdom says its hot-wallet breach cost just over $3 million, while on-chain investigator vxdb counts $4.208 million. The gap is up to $1.2 million, about 40% of Gamdom's own figure, across an attack that reached eight networks.

What happened

  • Gamdom's October 14 statement said an apparent server disk failure led investigators to an unauthorized connection on an automation server, and it took the platform offline while it investigated.
  • vxdb's breakdown puts about $2.2 million on Ethereum, BSC, Polygon, Arbitrum and Optimism, plus $668,000 in Bitcoin, $965,000 in Solana and $375,000 in TRON.
  • Cryptopolitan said Gamdom has not published a post-mortem, so it could not assess whether valuations, transaction counts or recovered money explain the difference.
  • A suspected private-key compromise at crypto gambling platform Duelbits in September 2026 drew loss estimates of $5.9 million to $7 million.

Why it matters

  • What doesn't add up contradiction Customers and counterparties have two loss figures for one event, and only a transaction list can show which is net and which is gross.
  • Who's exposed exposure One server connection reached eight networks, which is what a shared automation layer exposes for an operator paying instant withdrawals on many chains at once.
  • Who has to decide decision Gamdom now chooses between publishing a chain-by-chain table with transaction hashes and leaving vxdb's itemised count as the only breakdown anyone can cite.

The gap is at most $1.208 million [17]. Gamdom founder Felix Roemer wrote on October 14, 2026 that "we noticed a breach attacking our hot wallet system & we took measures to stop the drain, in total we lost just over $3m to the breach" [6]. vxdb's itemised pieces add up to its $4.208 million with nothing left over [15], so the difference is as much as 40% of what Gamdom reported [17].

Outside the five EVM chains, vxdb counts $2.008 million [18]. Chain by chain, its list offers two ways to land near Gamdom's number. Drop Solana's $965,000 and the total is $3.243 million, 8% above $3 million [19]. Drop Bitcoin and TRON and it is $3.165 million [20]. Cryptopolitan said it could not obtain confirmation of individual transactions in the attacker wallets that Arkham Intelligence monitors [8], so neither sum can be tested against a transaction.

Of the three causes Cryptopolitan lists, two can be sized. A valuation difference would have to account for up to 29% of vxdb's total [26], and a recovery explanation would need about $1.2 million returned [17]. Either leaves both figures standing, and an undercount leaves one. In our view the higher number is the safer working figure, since vxdb itemised by chain while Gamdom gave a rounded "just over" [1][5]. The counter is that vxdb itself calls its figure an estimate [2], and an itemised estimate is still unconfirmed. A post-mortem whose transaction list sums to about $3 million would show that vxdb counted outflows that were not the attacker's, and we would be wrong.

Hot wallets let operators pay withdrawals quickly, and the same connectivity gives attackers something to reach [11]. TRM Labs' H1 2026 analysis said "Infrastructure and operational compromises accounted for approximately 76% of all funds stolen" [13], from 15% of incidents [14]. On TRM's 207 incidents and $972 million [12], that is about $739 million across roughly 31 incidents [22][23], or about $24 million each [24], against about $1.3 million each for the other 176 [25]. Gamdom's $3 million to $4.2 million sits between the two averages [1][2].

CertiK's figure for Duelbits, about $6 million [10], sits inside a range of estimates that is $1.1 million wide [21].

What to watch

  • Gamdom's post-mortem: a chain-by-chain table with transaction hashes that sums to about $3 million after recoveries would close the gap as netting.
  • Any update from vxdb or Arkham on the attacker wallets that moves the $4.208 million count up or down.
  • Whether Gamdom says how it will cover the loss, since the size of any payout depends on which figure holds.
