Xora adds $53m to Hang Ten's seed five weeks after Mayfield closed the first

Hang Ten Systems has raised $85m across two seed rounds that closed thirty-five days apart, the second larger than the first, priced on enterprise contracts the company describes only as multi-million-dollar.

What happened

  • Xora, a Temasek-backed fund, led an additional $53 million seed round in Hang Ten Systems, taking the enterprise AI services company's total funding to $85 million.
  • The two seed rounds closed five weeks apart, and Mayfield, which led the first, came back alongside Aramco Ventures for the second.
  • Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan, Micron chairman and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra and Jerry Yang invested as individuals, and Yang has joined the board of directors.

Why it matters

  • What it limits constraint The money is earmarked for delivery capacity and a bigger engineering and consulting organisation, so Hang Ten grows headcount the way an integrator does, and the skills library has to show up later as fewer people per engagement.
  • Who's exposed exposure Aramco sits on both sides of this round, as a customer running AI applications and through Aramco Ventures as an investor, so one scoping decision inside Aramco moves both the revenue and one of the two named references.
  • Who has to decide decision An enterprise weighing Hang Ten against an incumbent integrator is choosing without a disclosed price on either side, and the scope expansion at Siemens Gamesa is the only public evidence of delivery against outcomes.
  • What's now possible capability The round doubles as distribution: Xora's network and its anchor investor Temasek give Hang Ten an entry into Singapore and Southeast Asia that the cash alone would not buy.

Subtract the extension from the total and the first seed was about $32m [21], which makes the second close roughly 1.7 times the first [22]. Thirty-five days separate them [7][19]. What Hang Ten says changed in between is several multi-million-dollar contracts with global enterprises, some now in delivery and some already completed [3]. The company did not put a value on any of them [20].

Xora said early customer commitments and production deployments were among the factors behind its investment [12]. Two of those references are named. Saudi Aramco is running AI applications with Hang Ten across several functions, and Aramco Ventures came into the round [4]. Siemens Gamesa began two months ago and expanded the scope of the engagement after Hang Ten delivered against an initial list of required outcomes [6]. A buyer that widens scope after delivery is making a judgement with its own money, and I would weight that above every other item disclosed here.

The cost claim is harder to check. Hang Ten builds, changes and runs enterprise software on a delivery model built around agentic code generation, a reusable skills library and domain expertise, and targets lower costs and shorter timelines than traditional systems integration [2][23]. The new capital goes to expanding delivery capacity for existing engagements and growing the engineering and consulting organisation [10]. So it is hiring people to serve contracts it has already signed. Revenue per engineer is the figure that would settle whether the library reduces heads per engagement, and Hang Ten, funded to $85m, has not disclosed it [1].

Phil Inagaki, Xora's managing partner and chief investment officer, said: "Enterprise technology has long been one of the largest cost lines in essential industries - slow to change, and slower still to translate AI into real economic value" [11]. Vishal Sikka, who ran Infosys before founding Hang Ten [8], put the condition on the other side: "AI can be the most powerful amplifier we have ever built. But in the enterprise, AI's power must go hand-in-hand with reliability" [18].

Jerry Yang's board seat is the round's one structural term; Intel's Lip-Bu Tan and Micron's Sanjay Mehrotra came in as individuals [9]. Xora's anchor investor is Temasek, and Hang Ten is targeting Singapore and Southeast Asia on that network [1][13]. Inagaki said: "We see the same urgency here in Singapore and across the broader region, where enterprises are racing to deploy AI in core operations" [14].

If the skills library compounds, Hang Ten takes fixed-price work an integrator has to staff hourly, and each closed contract lowers the delivery cost of the next. If it does not, this is a well-capitalised boutique growing by recruitment, sitting on the same cost line Inagaki described [11]. The version I would price today is both at once for a couple of years while the reference customers decide: Mahdi Aladel, chief executive of Aramco Ventures, said "What makes Hang Ten compelling is the breadth" [15], and Aladel said Aramco teams had identified multiple functions and use cases where the approach could be applied, with projects already being scoped [17].

What to watch

  • Whether Hang Ten's next disclosure carries contract values or engineer headcount, the two inputs to a cost comparison with an incumbent integrator.
  • Whether the expanded Siemens Gamesa engagement converts into a multi-year run contract or stops at project scope.
  • The first named Singapore or Southeast Asia customer arriving through Xora and Temasek.
