Oura shelves its launch-week Nasdaq IPO with a 90% growth forecast in hand
Oura postponed its Nasdaq IPO in the week it was slated to list, while reporting a profit and projecting 90% revenue growth for fiscal 2026. Bloomberg ties a run of delayed deals to a market waiting on Anthropic, so the test for Oura is whether it comes back on the same terms after that listing.
The Investor · Invest desk
What happened
- Oura said the offering was postponed "despite strong demand," and blamed uncertain conditions in the IPO market.
- The company said its business has strengthened since it began the IPO process, with the Oura Ring 5 lifting paid members to 5.7 million.
- Bloomberg called Oura the highest-profile of several recent IPO delays, after nuclear power services firm Holtec and Bamboo Insurance Services.
- The same report said the string of delays has made the market cautious while it waits for Anthropic to go public.
Why it matters
- What doesn't add up contradiction Oura calls demand strong yet chose not to price. Its own statement points to a gap over valuation between the company and the buyers in its book.
- What it costs cost Employees and existing investors, the two groups Hale named, go without a public market for their shares for as long as Oura waits.
- What it sets up precedent If issuers are holding for Anthropic, one listing now sets the calendar for Oura, Holtec and Bamboo, and a weak Anthropic debut would push all three further out.

"Strong demand" and a postponement in the same announcement [2] have to be reconciled first. When an order book is full at the price the seller wants, the deal normally gets priced, so when an issuer calls demand strong and still walks away, the gap is usually between what buyers offered and what the company and its holders would accept, or rather, between this week's price and the one they expect to get later. Neither report on the decision gives a price range, a share count or how many times the book was covered.
Oura did publish operating data. The 90% forecast means fiscal 2026 revenue of about 1.9 times the prior year's [12]. A profitable issuer [3] is not burning cash while it waits. Chief executive Tom Hale said: "We aim to deliver an extraordinary IPO for our employees and investors and we have the luxury of choosing our moment. In the meantime, we will execute against the opportunities ahead." [7]
At least three readings fit these facts. The first is Bloomberg's: a market holding back for Anthropic [6] would explain a run of delays that already includes Holtec and Bamboo [4]. The second is price. Last week PYMNTS wrote that "The ring is the way in," and that "The business investors are pricing is what happens to the data after it leaves the finger." [10] That data business includes a women's health AI model Oura unveiled in February [9]. It also competes with OpenAI. OpenAI says hundreds of millions of people send ChatGPT health questions each week, and in July it opened Health in ChatGPT to U.S. adults [11]. Buyers could have been willing to pay for the rings and not for the model. The third is that Oura simply stays private for longer, since a company that makes a profit has no funding deadline.
I think the window reading fits the evidence better. The delays span a nuclear power services firm, an insurer and a consumer hardware company [4]. A doubt about how to value wearable health data does not explain why a nuclear services firm would pull its deal too. The counter-thesis is that three unrelated price disagreements landing in the same few weeks would look like a shut window from outside, and the public record cannot yet tell the two apart. The window reading is wrong if Oura comes back after Anthropic lists and prices below what it was aiming for this week.
Whichever reading holds, Oura has chosen to wait. No shares can be sold until its Form S-1 is declared effective, and the company said that has not happened [8].
What to watch
- When Anthropic prices and how it trades in its first week, since Bloomberg's report puts that listing at the front of the queue.
- Whether Holtec or Bamboo Insurance Services relaunches before Anthropic lists, which would weaken the waiting-for-Anthropic explanation.
- An amended Oura S-1 with updated financials showing whether the 90% fiscal 2026 growth forecast is holding.
