After USDC partners, transaction costs and operations, Circle keeps about 7 cents of each revenue dollar
Circle spent $819 million on USDC distribution partners and transaction costs in the first half of 2026, about 59% of its roughly $1.4 billion in revenue. Each point of that share is worth about $14 million against net profit of about $98 million.

Circle, first half of 2026: $819 million paid to distribution partners and transaction costs, against roughly $1.4 billion in revenue. Operating expenses were roughly $473 million and net profit about $98 million, a figure that is disputed.

What happened
- Operating expenses of about $473 million, covering licenses, banking relationships, compliance and infrastructure, took most of what remained after the partner payout.
- In the second quarter alone, distribution and transaction costs were $412 million against $701 million in revenue and reserve income.
- More than 150 partners take part in USDC economics, and Coinbase is the largest of them by the balances it holds.
- USDC carried about 77% of global stablecoin transaction volume by June 2026, up from 60% a year earlier.
- Circle has agreed to buy Tazapay for $400 million, with the deal targeted to close in 2027.
Why it matters
- Who's exposed exposure A renegotiation with Coinbase, the largest partner by balances held, would land almost entirely on net profit, because profit is the residual after partners and operations are paid.
- What it limits constraint Operating expenses are already nearly five times net profit, so each new license, bank relationship or compliance function in a new market is paid from a 7-cent margin.
- What doesn't add up contradiction Crypto Briefing says the partner slice and compliance costs need not shrink when revenue does, yet second-quarter payouts of 58.8% of revenue are in line with the half-year share, so the payout has so far moved with revenue.

Circle aims USDC at about 40 emerging markets from a 25% share of stablecoinsConfirmed3 publishers
Circle reported the figures on October 16, 2026, according to Crypto Briefing [4], and the $819 million is a single line covering distribution partners and transaction costs together [8]. The 59% [3] is therefore the most distributors can have taken.
What is left shows why the split matters. Subtract $819 million [1] from roughly $1.4 billion [2] and about $581 million remains [11]; operating expenses of $473 million [5] then absorb 81% of that [12], and net profit of $98 million [20] is the residual. A residual that thin moves on small changes above it. A rise in the partner-and-transaction share from 59% to 66% would take 7% of $1.4 billion, or $98 million, the whole half-year profit [14]. Put as growth in the line itself, a 12% increase in the $819 million erases the profit [17], where operating expenses would have to rise 21% to do the same [18].
We think the partner share (or rather the combined partner and transaction share, since the figures are not separated) is the main variable in Circle's margin: it is set in agreements with partners, and at $819 million it is 1.7 times the size of the operating line [16]. The counter-case is the expansion. Crypto Briefing writes that entering the 40 to 50 emerging markets Circle plans [21] will likely mean more licenses, banking and compliance [24], and the $400 million Tazapay price [22] is 4.1 times half-year net profit [25]. If operating costs climb 21% while revenue stands still, the profit is gone without a single new point going to partners [18].
The test is the next report. If the payout ratio stays near 59% and the net margin still drops below 7 cents, operating costs are the variable and this view is wrong. If the ratio creeps up as Circle signs new partners, the view holds. The latest such agreement is Binance's, a five-year commercial deal from September 2026 that Crypto Briefing ties to a $100 million equity investment [7].
What to watch
- A split of the combined payout line into partner payments and transaction costs in Circle's next report.
- The operating expense line against revenue once the 40 to 50 market entries begin.
- Tazapay's close against the 2027 target, and any payout terms disclosed from the Binance agreement.
