Olive Young's Sephora deal reaches 48 Asian stores about nine months after signing

CJ Olive Young has K-Beauty Edit displays in 48 Sephora stores across four Asian markets, two months after the US debut. The only sales evidence is the company's own statement that average daily sales of major brands at Sephora US doubled in a month.

What happened

  • By market, Malaysia has 18 stores with the display, Thailand 13, Singapore nine and Hong Kong eight.
  • Each store carries 12 to 17 brands and up to about 120 products.
  • Olive Young signed its formal agreement with Sephora in January and began with the US market.
  • A pop-up at ION Orchard in Singapore, running Oct. 8 to 14, offers skin diagnostic services and beauty samples.
  • Olive Young plans to bring the display to Sephora stores in Canada, Australia, Britain and the Middle East next year.

Why it matters

  • Who's exposed exposure Malaysia and Thailand hold 31 of the 48 stores, or 64.6% (18 plus 13), so early Asian results will mostly reflect those two markets.
  • Who has to decide decision Across the 48 stores that is 576 to 816 brand listings (48 x 12 and 48 x 17), and choosing which Korean brands fill them is a lever Olive Young controls in this arrangement.
  • What it sets up precedent Four more markets next year would take the display from five to nine, and the skincare tilt the company ties to Asian climates would be tested in markets with different ones.

Speed depends on where the clock starts. Counted from the August US debut, the Asian rollout took roughly two months [12]. Counted from the January agreement, it took about nine [13]. We think nine months is the fairer measure of how long Olive Young needed to get a curated display into five markets [16], since the two-month figure only times the second leg of a schedule that began with the signing.

The one demand figure is a doubling. According to Olive Young, average daily sales of major brands at Sephora in the US, including Rejuran, Arencia and Torriden, doubled from the previous month as of the end of September [18]. That is a company statement with no outside check, and it can mislead in three ways. The comparison month is presumably August, the launch month, so the base may be a part-month. The figure covers major brands, so the rest of the assortment is outside it. And a doubling can sit on any base. Olive Young did not disclose the base or the day in August the display went live.

The counter-case is that the company names three brands, which suggests a broad lift and not one hit. We would hold the footprint as established and the demand as plausible but unproven. A doubling that persisted into a third month, shown in absolute sales or sell-through, would move us toward the company's own account of quick scaling.

The stated strategy is to use Sephora's global distribution network to strengthen Olive Young as a base for spreading K-beauty [9]. Under that arrangement Olive Young's visible contribution is curation and event marketing, such as the Singapore pop-up [5], and Sephora's stores are the floor. An Olive Young official said: "Based on curation that reflects consumer data and trends in each market, we will continue to broaden the global consumer base for K-beauty." [11]

The Asian lineup leans heavily toward skincare such as cleansers, serums and creams, a tilt the company ties to local climates and consumer preferences [8].

What to watch

  • Any change to the 48-store count or to the 12-to-17 brand range per store, since both are Sephora allocations that can be revised.
  • The first store counts and brand lineups for the 2027 launches, to see whether the skincare share holds outside Asia.
