Stripe's Privy adds XRP Ledger wallets as Ripple cites 13 million agent payments it counted itself

Stripe-owned Privy is bringing its wallets to the XRP Ledger, where Ripple says agents have made 13 million payments. Ripple is the only source for that count. The announcements leave developers free to settle in XRP or in other assets.

Key figures: AI-agent payments are roughly 25% of XRP Ledger network activity, per Ripple; if the 13 million agent payments are 25% of activity in the same units, total activity implied is 52 million; Privy's announcement cites $1 trillion in cumulative value moved on the XRP Ledger.

What happened

  • Privy's tooling lets developers create and manage XRPL wallets in software, sign transactions, and build with XRP, RLUSD and other assets on the ledger.
  • Embedded wallets let fintechs offer stablecoin payments without customers handling keys, server-side wallets let agents hold funds and pay through x402, and users can export their keys.
  • Ripple joined the x402 Foundation as a Premier Member on July 14, and its list of Premier Members included Stripe, Coinbase, Circle, Google, Visa and Mastercard.
  • Stripe agreed to buy Privy in June 2025, after paying $1.1 billion for stablecoin provider Bridge, and Bloomberg reported the Privy terms were not disclosed.

Why it matters

  • Who's exposed exposure XRP holders depend on developers choosing XRP voluntarily, because both companies left the settlement asset open.
  • What it limits constraint Sizing agent demand on the ledger takes a total and a dollar value from Ripple; a payment count alone cannot tell $1 payments from $1,000 ones.
  • Who has to decide decision A fintech weighing XRPL must make the integration decision on Ripple's own numbers, since price, service terms and a named launch customer have yet to be published.

Ripple's own sentence is enough to back out a ledger total. We would not lean on it. If 13 million agent payments are a quarter of activity counted in the same units [4], activity is 52 million [20]. Ripple said, "To date, it has processed 13M agent payments, which now account for roughly 25% of network activity." [5] That sentence sets a cumulative count beside a current share, so 52 million may not be a ledger total at all.

The dollar side is thinner. Ripple did not disclose a dollar value for the agent payments or a total for the share [12]. Privy's announcement, according to CryptoTimes, cites more than $1 trillion in cumulative value moved on the ledger [7]. As an illustration with a deliberately crude input, 13 million payments averaging $1 each would come to 0.0013% of that $1 trillion [18]. 24/7 Wall St. reports that the figures come only from Ripple and that no independent verification is available [6]. It leans toward reading the 25% as a sign of limited overall activity, because automated systems can send many small payments cheaply and make counts misleading without dollar values [13].

The XRP question has a counter-thesis built into the ledger. According to 24/7 Wall St., Privy's communication emphasizes stablecoin payments without mentioning XRP, while Ripple lists XRP alongside RLUSD and other assets [9], so XRP is one choice among several. The same outlet notes that each account on the ledger must keep a small XRP reserve [14]. Every funded wallet an app opens through Privy therefore locks up some XRP, whatever the app settles in. We think that reserve is the only XRP demand the announcements guarantee. Its size depends on how many new funded accounts arrive on top of the more than 8 million already there [7].

XRP traded around $1.36 on October 13, down 8.0% on the week [17]. That puts it near $1.48 seven days earlier [19]. The window includes the announcement date, so it says little about the deal.

We think the supportable claim is narrow. Privy gives apps that hold keys for their users a route onto the XRP Ledger [2], and the agent figure stays unverified until Ripple publishes a denominator and a dollar value. The outcome could still split three ways. Apps adopt Privy and settle in RLUSD, leaving XRP with the reserve alone. Or they adopt it and settle in XRP, and that would show as funded-account growth. Or few apps adopt it at all. We'd change our view if funded accounts climb from Privy-built apps, or if a dollar value makes 13 million payments large against the $1 trillion cumulative total [7].

What to watch

  • Whether Ripple publishes total ledger activity and a dollar value for the 13 million agent payments.
  • Growth in funded XRPL accounts from Privy-built apps, measured against the more than 8 million cited at announcement.
  • Whether Privy or Ripple names launch partners and discloses pricing for the integration.
