S&P Global leads the round in the data provider beneath its own crypto indices
The index house behind the S&P 500 led the investment that took Kaiko to $110 million in total funding. Subtract the three earlier rounds and the new money is about $28 million, going into a partner whose product had already shipped.

What happened
- S&P Global led an investment that pushes total funding at Kaiko, a Paris-based digital asset data provider, to $110 million, according to Crypto Briefing.
- Crypto Briefing puts Kaiko's total funding before this round in the $80 million range, raised across three rounds since a 2019 seed and backed by investors including Eight Roads and Revaia.
- S&P Dow Jones Indices and Kaiko launched a co-branded suite, the S&P Kaiko Digital Asset Indices, on September 1, 2026, aimed at asset managers and financial institutions.
- Full deal terms and Kaiko's current valuation were not disclosed with the announcement.
Why it matters
- What's now possible capability S&P Dow Jones Indices can sell digital asset benchmarks without running tick-level collection across centralized and decentralized venues, because Kaiko's feed sits under the co-brand.
- Who has to decide decision An institution picking a crypto data vendor now weighs an S&P-branded benchmark against Bloomberg, Refinitiv, CoinGecko and Binance-owned CoinMarketCap.
- Who's exposed exposure Kaiko's index partner is also its lead investor, so any change in S&P's benchmark plans reaches both the revenue channel and the cap table at once.

Add the disclosed rounds: a $5 million seed in 2019, $24 million in 2021, $53 million in 2022 [5]. That comes to $82 million [15], inside the $80 million range Crypto Briefing puts on Kaiko's total before this deal [10]. A new total of $110 million [1] therefore puts roughly $28 million of fresh capital into the Paris company [16] [4], a little over half what the Series B raised [17]. S&P Global led the round, so its own cheque is some part of that $28 million [1].
Against the buyer's own franchise the sum is small. Roughly $10 trillion of assets track the S&P 500 [7], and $28 million is about 0.0003 percent of that [18]. The co-branded S&P Kaiko Digital Asset Indices went live before the equity did [2].
S&P did not buy Kaiko outright, and on this record it is not building the collection layer itself. Kaiko sells granular order book data, tick-by-tick trade history across centralized and decentralized venues, and API access built for compliance-aware institutional workflows [11]. Crypto Briefing wrote that S&P has deep expertise in traditional asset class indices but needed a native digital asset data partner to extend that expertise into crypto benchmarks with real market depth [9]. Leading a round and putting its name on the index suite gets S&P that supply without paying for the company.
What Kaiko gets is a channel. Crypto Briefing wrote that S&P's distribution reach into global financial institutions gives Kaiko's data products a credibility stamp and a sales channel that would take years to build independently [8]. By 2025 the firm was already what the industry calls a Super Validator in the tokenized finance ecosystem [14]. Crypto Briefing does not report how much money is benchmarked to the joint suite.
If asset managers benchmark real money to those indices, $28 million is small next to the licensing stream and S&P holds a cheap option on the rest of the company. If they do not, Kaiko is a data vendor with a good logo whose largest round is still the $53 million of 2022 [5]. A third case: S&P's index arm takes the reference-data methodology in-house once it understands the venues, and the co-brand lapses. The first case looks likeliest because the product exists already, and on that basis Crypto Briefing's argument that the lead investor's identity matters more than the dollar figure [13] holds. A disclosed valuation showing a sharp step-up from the 2022 price would make this an ordinary up-round.
What to watch
- Any published figure for assets benchmarked to the S&P Kaiko Digital Asset Indices, which turns the co-brand into a licensing number.
- Whether Eight Roads and Revaia put money into this round or were diluted by it.
- Whether Bloomberg or Refinitiv answers with a co-branded digital asset benchmark of their own.
