Moonshot's last private round values it at about 167 times revenue ahead of a Hong Kong IPO

Moonshot AI closed its last private round at about $50 billion, nearly 12 times its end-2025 value, ahead of a Hong Kong IPO planned for early 2027. Public buyers will be asked to price a company valued at roughly 167 times its June revenue run rate.

What happened

  • Annualized revenue reached about $300 million by June, up from roughly $200 million in April, according to Crypto Briefing.
  • In July, Moonshot raised $3.5 billion at a post-money valuation of $35 billion.
  • Kimi K3, its flagship model, launched in July with 2.8 trillion parameters and a 1-million-token context window, the largest open-weight model, per Crypto Briefing.
  • Goldman Sachs, CICC and Deutsche Bank are among the underwriters on the Hong Kong offering.
  • Crypto Briefing reports preliminary revenue-sharing talks with Microsoft, Amazon and Google, the first such talks for a Chinese AI firm with major US clouds.

Why it matters

  • What doesn't add up contradiction At the $50 billion mark, Crypto Briefing's $3 billion raise sells about 6% of the company and the up-to-$5 billion in Bloomberg's headline sells 10%, so the size of the float public buyers will price is unsettled.
  • Who has to decide decision Making the $50 billion round the final private one sends Moonshot's next raise to public buyers instead of backers such as Alibaba, Tencent and China Mobile.
  • What it limits constraint Developers can download and run K3 themselves, so the model's reception can grow faster than the paid usage a 167-times revenue multiple depends on.

Each round has paid more per dollar of revenue than the one before. On the run-rate figures Crypto Briefing reports [10], the May round at $20 billion [8] came to about 100 times April revenue [25]. July's mark was about 117 times June's [26]. The $50 billion close [1] is about 167 times that same June number [23], close to the "more than 160 times" Crypto Briefing gives [22]. Between the July round and this one, the multiple rose by about 50 points against the same June revenue [24].

The June figure predates Kimi K3 [9], so the bearish reading of that multiple assumes revenue stopped compounding after the launch. Revenue grew about 50% in the two months to June [16]. If that pace held for three more two-month stretches, the run rate would pass $1 billion by December and the $50 billion mark would come to about 49 times revenue [27].

The listing would also be large against Moonshot's own history. Crypto Briefing says the company has raised more than $5.5 billion in total [4], and the two reported deal sizes [5][7] would add about 55% to 91% to that figure in a single transaction [18].

Crypto Briefing puts DeepSeek at about $74 billion and Z.AI at roughly $66 billion [11], so Moonshot's private mark is about two-thirds of DeepSeek's [19]. The report does not say how those two figures were set or whether either company's shares trade. A Moonshot book would give them a public reference point. If the offering clears above $50 billion [1], the run of private marks holds. If it clears below, the DeepSeek and Z.AI figures face the same discount question, and if the deal shrinks or slips, every private mark in the group goes untested for longer.

I think the book prices Moonshot on revenue, and on June's revenue the climb from $35 billion [21] to $50 billion [1] is the hardest part to defend. The counter-thesis is the US cloud talks Crypto Briefing describes [12]. Signed revenue sharing with any of the three would move K3's reception into the revenue line, and the 167-times multiple [23] would come down with it.

What to watch

  • Whether the early-look investor meetings Bloomberg says could start this month produce a revenue figure later than June's, and how far above roughly $300 million it sits.
  • Which size the public filing settles on, about $3 billion or up to $5 billion, and the valuation it is struck at against the $50 billion private mark.
  • The timetable: Crypto Briefing allows for a window as early as late 2026, while Bloomberg's sources point to the first quarter of 2027.
