Penguin Solutions booked almost two-thirds of its fiscal 2026 sales growth in one quarter
Penguin Solutions grew fourth-quarter sales 68% to $567 million, against 26% for the full fiscal year, on a 158% jump in memory revenue. Its $2.43 billion fiscal 2027 guide asks for little more than that quarter's pace repeated four times.
The Investor · Invest desk

What happened
- Penguin tied the acceleration to back-half demand in Integrated Memory and Advanced Computing, driven by new customers and newer memory technologies used in AI infrastructure.
- Fourth-quarter non-GAAP earnings of $1.00 a share beat analyst estimates by $0.23.
- Penguin guided to fiscal 2027 non-GAAP EPS of $4.45, about 55% above the $2.87 it earned in fiscal 2026.
- The shares rose 5.8% to $64.21 on Oct. 6, the day of the announcement.
Why it matters
- Who's exposed exposure Part of fiscal 2027 now rests on clients Penguin signed within the last quarter, so its revenue is tied to the build schedules of customers with little order history at the company.
- What it limits constraint The earnings target is the harder half of the guide: $4.45 needs EPS about 11% above the fourth quarter's annualised $4.00, a steeper climb than sales face.
- Who has to decide decision A buyer at $64.21 pays about 14 times guided non-GAAP EPS, a multiple that stays low only while the $4.45 target holds.

Strip out the fourth quarter and Penguin Solutions had an ordinary year. Working back from the reported growth rates, fiscal 2025 sales were about $1.37 billion, with about $338 million of that in its fourth quarter [14]. That puts the first nine months of fiscal 2026 at roughly $1.16 billion, up about 12% on the same stretch a year earlier [16]. The fourth quarter alone added about $230 million, or close to 64% of the year's roughly $357 million increase [15].
The fiscal 2027 midpoint of $2.43 billion, which Penguin puts at about 40% growth [8], averages $607.5 million a quarter. Each quarter would need to beat the $567 million just reported by about 7% [17].
I can see three readings of the quarter. The company's own reading makes $567 million a floor and the guide cautious [7]. A second is timing. If those six new clients [6] were taking first deliveries, part of the fourth quarter's revenue was a one-time build and fiscal 2027 opens lower than the guide assumes. Then there is the 158% rise in Integrated Memory revenue [2]. Some of it may be the cost of memory content passing through to sales, and the reported figures do not give segment revenue in dollars or separate volume from price.
Penguin describes its work as semiconductor and memory technology plus advanced computing systems [11], so its second half does show AI spending reaching a supplier that sits below the chipmakers. These figures establish that for one company across one quarter.
At $64.21 [10], the shares trade at about 22 times fiscal 2026 non-GAAP earnings per share [19]. The per-share figures, reported and guided, are adjusted ones [4][9]. Lana Adair of investor relations said at the start of the call: "During this call, unless otherwise indicated, all references to financial measures refer to non-GAAP financial measures." [12] The finance chief on that call, Aaron Johnson, holds the job on an interim basis [13].
I think the fourth quarter is closer to a base than a spike. The drivers the company named are customers and technology, and both should keep showing up in orders [7]. The counter-case is that one quarter carrying nearly two-thirds of a year's sales growth [15] is what project revenue looks like just before it reverts. First-quarter fiscal 2027 sales would settle it. A figure well under $567 million [1] would leave the remaining three quarters averaging well above $607.5 million to reach the guide [17], and would favour the timing reading.
What to watch
- Whether management holds, raises or cuts the $4.45 non-GAAP EPS target at its first fiscal 2027 quarterly update.
- The pace of new AI infrastructure client wins after the six added in the fourth quarter.
- Similar back-half acceleration at other memory and systems-integration suppliers, the evidence that Penguin's quarter belongs to a wider pattern.
